Welcome to Monday Coffee Break everyone! This past week I have been thinking a lot about pizza and bread. I’ve been in a rustic mood lately, cue this comment made to the husband last week: “can’t we just say screw it and move to France? We can farm and I’ll learn to make cheese.” Sounds logical to me. Or at least it always sounds logical when I just get too fed up with modern-life stressors.
How bad could that be, right? This house is actually for rent, BTW. Just sayin’.
Anywhoo, my rustic vibe this week has led me to want to bake big crusty breads and fire artisan pizzas in big, brick ovens that are built right into the wall of a kitchen.
Since I don’t have one of those (yet!), I went searching for some breads and pizzas that were actually quite simple to make with modern, everyday appliances. And the winners are…
First up is this dutch oven artisan bread by Spoonful of Sugar. This bread only has a few ingredients, and all you need to bake it in is a dutch oven. Aside from the rise-time, this bread looks very low maintenance to make…and even better to eat.
Next up are these artisinal-esque bread sticks from Full Fork Ahead. These actually use store made pizza dough with a few additional flavors added in. They are also topped with a garlic butter sauce. Need I say more?
This next pizza is my all time favorite kind of pizza, Pizza Margherita. This version from The Spinning Plate looks really great. There is also a nice story about her experience with the cheese making process in this post. The crust on this pizza looks so crispy and light. I need a slice now.
Now, who wants some Rustic Garlic Loaves from Passionate About Baking? I do! I do! I can almost smell these loaves baking. There is also a recipe for garlic dipping butter with the recipe. Y-U-M.
Next up we have a cool twist on pizza flavors with this Apple, Blue Cheese, and Arugula flatbread from Photo appetite. How could this not be good with this flavor combination? Yes, please.
I’ll definitely be giving these rustic beauties a try in my kitchen. I think the pizza Margherita first, or the dutch oven bread, no wait! the bread sticks…
Until Thursday (new recipe sharing day!) have a great week- in and out of the kitchen.

The first bread recipe is one of my favorite. You don\’t even have to be particularly exact.
I can\’t wait to try that one, it seems too simple to be possible…but it looks awesome.
Oh my GOD. I would love to hear about how each of these fare in your kitchen as I will not be eating refined white carbs for the next three weeks! I must live vicariously through you–that pizza….just omg.
Erika, I will absolutely post on the bread and pizzas I make from this list. I think I\’m starting with the Dutch oven bread…then the pizza. Good luck with the no refined carbs…I\’ll be living vicariously through you with that one, lol.
Thank you so much for posting my artisan bread! You\’ve reminded me that I need to make more… 🙂
You are very welcome! I can\’t wait to try my hand at making it, it looks so good! ( I fear maybe too good…)
Moorish…what a delicious post. Thank you including my rustic loaves, and for sharing some brilliant others Rebekkah! Hope you get baking bread soon! Good luck.
It\’s my pleasure to feature your rustic beauties! They look amazing.
The bread baking begins this week…can\’t wait to get started.
🙂

Aw, Rebekah, cute new header image! And love your Monday post this week — how can you ever go wrong with bread or pizza? Your post reminded me of an awesome recipe I have for making no-knead bread and it has pretty much changed my life. Bread can do that =) BTW, how did making the Dutch oven bread go? Can you shoot me over some when it\’s ready? 😉
Thanks Christina! The site design is still a work in progress…just like life I guess 🙂 No-knead bread does sound like a game changer. I\’m making the dutch oven bread Friday (baking it friday, prepping it thursday to rise overnight I think…) and making some tapenade. I will star trek- style teleport you some of both! (don\’t you wish that was possible???)
Have a great week, looking forward o your post today!
